David Sharp – Doug Copley’s Lineside Images & Roger Hallatt – The David Odd Collection
Speakers – David Sharp & Roger Hallatt
Glimpses of bright red and yellow Mainline buses, and Supertram in ‘as-delivered’ dove grey (invisible in fog!) as Doug first follows the River Don from Sheffield City Centre to Tinsley. At Meadowhall Mainline bendy-buses on route 501 negotiate the sharp turn out of the Transport Interchange. When the River Don meets the canal at Tinsley, Doug backtracks to the City centre for a detailed look around Sheffield Canal basin before setting off for Tinsley once more, but this time taking the canal route and looking at the industries alongside. At Tinsley it gets ever more interesting as Doug follows the British Waterways Board boat “Eric of Lincoln” for the passage of the Tinsley flight of 11 locks. Plenty of railway activity seen as Doug journeys on board the boat past Ickles to just beyond Rotherham town centre. A trip blessed with fine sunny weather, and we see once again Doug’s uncanny knack of capturing jammy shots – what odds of filming a freight on the “Old Road” and then, right on cue, getting a unit appearing below on the Holmes Chord past C F Booth scrapyard? Industrial heritage enriched by Doug’s commentary about the works buildings seen and the processes carried on within.
After the break Roger will show more steam gems from the David Odd slide collection; images from the 1950s and 60s.
