Welcome to Barrow Hill, Britain's last surviving working Roundhouse...
Whatever your memories of Britain’s railways you’ll be amazed at what you can see at Barrow Hill and its preserved Roundhouse.
Throughout each year the galas feature working steam and diesel locomotives, which are often joined by a variety of visiting steam and modern diesel locomotives off the main line.
On special event days train rides are available, pulled by either a steam or diesel locomotive from ‘Roundhouse Halt’, a purpose-built platform. Trains travel around the depot and up the Springwell branch. Trade stands and catering all go together to create a great day out.
Visitors by the thousand now make Barrow Hill's special events regular dates in their diary
Barrow Hill is also home to the Deltic Preservation Society's maintenance depot and museum, adjacent to the Roundhouse.
The Deltic Preservation Society's depot is open on Saturdays 10am-4pm, and during some of Barrow Hill's special events.
The Roundhouse is currently closed to the general public as our exciting building and renovation project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, takes place.
We will be posting lots of updates here and on our Facebook and Twitter feeds so please don't go away too far.
There are some VERY exciting plans to celebrate our reopening in Autumn 2017. Plus there will be an opportunity for a sneak preview in May when the site reopens temporarily for Rail Ale 2017.
Thank you and see you soon....
