You will have the chance to explore the history of the local area, find out about people that worked at the Roundhouse and understand the science and engineering behind the railways. With plenty of interactive opportunities for children and adults alike, the exhibitions will allow you to discover the Roundhouse and its story through fun and exciting activities.
On weekends we will also have resources available for children to explore the exhibitions using exciting activities and trails.
Room 1 – See the timeline of the Roundhouse, from building to saving, all the way to the current day.
Room 2 – Start your day’s work at the Roundhouse in the Foreman’s office. See the room as it would have been during the Roundhouse’s heyday.
Room 3 – Choose your character for the Roundhouse to find out about working in this unique building. Discover the story of the local area and why the Roundhouse was built. Find out about the village of Barrow Hill and its fascinating history.
The Roundhouse – enter the amazing space of the Roundhouse where you will find a collection of steam, diesel and electric engines. Find out what it was like to work here and the type of jobs that you might have done on your day of work. See the working turntable along with other reminders from the Roundhouse past.
Room 4 – Find out about the science and engineering behind the railways and the role of the Roundhouse. Have a go on our scientific interactives to really feel like you are working in the engine shed.

There is a diversion in place due to a road closure at Junction 29a of the M1; this will add approximately 10 minutes to your journey time if you use this route to reach the Roundhouse. This diversion will be in place until 31st March 2015.
